“The temperature outside is 32 degree Celsius”, the cabin crew announced as my flight landed in Goa. That’s hot, that’s really hot! But then, there’s no wrong weather to head to Goa for a relaxed weekend. So here I was, on my second Goa trip of the year (boy! can I get enough of this place?).
In around 45 mins – after a lovely drive – I was at Bay 15, a beautiful property on Odxel beach in Dona Paula. Odxel is a small, secluded, partially rocky beach in north Goa. I was thoroughly impressed with the location, view and the rooms. It’s a small property with beach-side cabanas, a small and clean pool and windows that open to the view of the sea.
All the cabanas are of the same size and design with both pool and sea view (latter more expensive, of-course). The interiors are modern with framed pictures of Jim Morrison, Audrey Hepburn and Merlyn Munroe hanging from the wall. The air-conditioned room has a refrigerator stacked with beer, cold drinks, juices and chocolates; tea kettle with tea bags, coffee and sugar; chips and snacks; television with Tata Sky connection; a wardrobe; study table and French window with a small balcony where I spent most of my time looking at the sea and enjoying my beer.
The bathroom is small but clean with a shower cubicle and geyser.
Tip – Make sure you get the corner most cabana (to the right). It gives an uninterrupted view of the sea.
While I was invited by Bay 15 for the stay, I could see that the staff was polite in general with everyone and extremely helpful. The room service was quick; if the room service staff doesn’t answer the call you can always call the reception and your request will be handled immediately.
Food and Drink:
Bay 15 has one restaurant and bar which serves Goan, pan Indian and Mediterranean food. I’ve done a separate post on the food at Bay 15. Check it out here.
When in Goa, you don’t need much to do except looking at the sea, lying on the beach, chugging beer or reading a book, or all of the above. However, Bay 15 takes the experience a few notches higher. They have live band playing retro, Goan and classics on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The hotel arranges for pickup/drop from/to the airport/railway station, but taking a pre-paid from the airport is cheaper. ask them to arrange for rented bike or car if you wish to drive around. the closest petrol pump is at 10 mins distance on the way to panjim.
Bay 15 is highly recommended if you’re planning a leisure trip to Goa. Come here with a stack of those books that you’ve been planning to read, sit by the sea and have a good time.
1. The hotel is in a secluded area so venture out late in the night only if you are in a group.
2. The hotel is away from hospital and medical shops so carry your basic medicines and first aid.
3. There are crows so take care of your food when sitting on the cabanas by the sea or in the open air area (I learnt it the hard way after losing a pakoda)
Tariffs fluctuate as per demand. Seasonal rates are around Rs 7,500 + taxes for sea facing room and Rs 6,500 + taxes for pool facing room. Cost includes breakfast.
I was invited by Bay 15 to review the property. The stay along with food+drinks was complementary.
